Constipation is difficulty with irregular bowel movements, or
passing hard and dry stool. The major cause of the constipation
is due to low fiber diet or dehydration. Constipation is
considered to be the key factor for onset and progress of many
body ailments, as per Ayurvedic theory which believes that if
your digestion is in order, stools are passed without any hassel,
wind is discharged freely or gas is eructated, your body secrets
sweat regularly, you are not likely to face any health hazard.
Constipation is common among children, aged ones and pregnant
women. Every individual has different bowel patterns. Some of
the symptoms associated with constipation are bloating,
uncomfortable and sluggishness. In general constipation is not
taken as a serious problem but it is the causes of most of
serious problem. Understanding the right cause will help in
preventing constipation.
Belching after meals is said to be a welcome sign of quick
digestion of food. Yogic and other exercises, walking, inhaling
plenty of fresh and pure air, leading an active and busy life
help to digest food, thus keep you out of any possibility of
constipation.
It may be noted that constipation is the probable cause behind
onset of colic, flatulence, acidity, gas formation, acidity. If
your bowels are regular, you are not likely to suffer from
anyone of the disorder. For recent constipation take a tea spoon
of Isabgol husk with a glass of hot milk at night, before
retiring to bed. It will also improve general health condition.
Avoid taking laxatives or purgatives to ease constipation, once
the habit of taking such pills build up, it becomes a habit, and
stools will not be passed without intake of such pills which are
habit forming.
Common Causes of Constipation: Low fiber diet, Low fluid intake,
Lack of exercise, Pregnancy, Slimming, Hemorrhoids, Anxiety,
Weak bowel muscles, Irritable bowel syndrome, Certain
medications and Excessive intake of calcium or iron.
Constipation is generally of three types :
1. Either the stools are not passed even once daily or for many
days
2. One has to frequently visit the closet to pass stools but the
quantity passed, each time, is quite small and there is always a
feeling that 'something remained' in the intestines.
3. When peristaltic action of intestines and rectum is sluggish
and weak. In this situation either the intestine is unable to
push the faucal matter to rectum or rectum itself is unable to
push out or expel stools due to weak or lost peristalsis.
Home Remedies for Constipation
Tips 1:
First thing in the morning drink a glass of warm water with the
juice of 1/2 a lime and 1 tsp honey has been added.
Tips 2:
Drink 2-3-4 glasses of water first thing in the morning.
Tips 3:
Soak 10-12 big raisins in a cup of milk and bring to boil, first
eat the raisins then drink the milk. Repeat this every morning
for 3-4 days till constipation clears up.
Tips 4:
Mix 2 tsp husk seed (Isabgol) in 1/2 a cup of hot milk and drink
immediately. Drink one cup of plain milk to follow. Repeat this
every night for chronic constipation.
Tips 5:
Fry small Harad 100 gm in ghee. As the Harad will bloat and
start smoking, remove from ghee. Measure 100 gm Aniseed (Saunf).
Keep aside 50 gm and fry 50 gm in the same ghee. Mix with Harad
and remaining aniseed with lightly roasted aniseed (Saunf).
Powder all the three together. Mix 100 gm ghee and 400 gm sugar
candy and powder along with the other powders. Take 2tsp along
with 1 cup of milk twice a day. Do not eat anything 1 hour
before and after. This will clear your the stomach.
Tips 6:
Half a medium sized Papaya eaten before breakfast everyday.
Tips 7:
Triphala or a combination of Harad, Baheda and Alma which should
be taken at bed time with a glass of lukewarm water or hot milk.
This will remove both acute and chronic constipation.
Tips 8:
Add 2 drops of Rosemary, lavender or Marjoram to base oil and
massage gently on the abdomen clockwise, in addition to taking
anyone of the remedies.
Tips 9:
Take a tea-spoon full of Triphala powder with warm water before
going to bed everyday.
